Confirmation

In the Lutheran tradition, Confirmation is a time of intentional faith formation in which young people are invited to deepen their understanding of baptism, Scripture, and what it means to live as disciples of Jesus.

At LCOS, we approach Confirmation a little differently. We recognize the full and busy lives of today’s families, while also holding firmly to the importance of meaningful faith formation for youth. Rather than a one-size-fits-all model, we offer a flexible approach that honors different schedules, learning styles, and family rhythms, without losing depth or theological grounding.

We are excited to offer a Self-Guided Confirmation Program designed primarily for middle school youth, though it is flexible enough to accommodate older students as well. This program invites each student to take an active role in their own faith formation, providing space for personal reflection, family engagement, and thoughtful participation in worship—all at a manageable and intentional pace.

How the Program Works

When the course is offered (every two years or so), students engage with monthly study packets that explore core elements of Lutheran faith and Christian discipleship. These materials include:

  • The Small Catechism, grounding students in Luther’s teachings
  • Biblical foundations through Bible Project videos and guided study
  • Lutheran identity and practice using Baptized We Live
  • Servant work opportunities that connect faith to daily life
  • Memorization and reflection on the Lord’s Prayer
  • Practices for developing an active, lived faith
  • Prompts for meaningful family conversations
  • Worship engagement through sermon notes and reflection

This approach allows youth to grow in faith with intention and support, while remaining connected to the worshiping life of the congregation and the wider community of LCOS.
