What happens at a church wedding?
When two people are married in the church, their marriage is both legally recognized by the State of New York and blessed in the presence of God and community. A church wedding is more than a ceremony—it is a worship service where we lift up the couple in prayer, hear Scripture, sing hymns, and celebrate God’s gift of love.
To love and honor one another
In a Christian marriage, we speak honestly about love, not only the joy and romance, but the deep commitment that grows through forgiveness, faithfulness, patience, and grace. We trust that God is the giver of all love, and that God walks with us through every season of life together. In the blessing, we ask God to strengthen the couple with hope, courage, and compassion for the journey ahead.
Interested in being married at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior?
If you would like to be married at LCOS, your first step is simply to reach out to the pastor. The ELCA asks couples to spend time in intentional conversation before the wedding, so that the ceremony grows out of a strong and thoughtful foundation.
Instead of a formal “program,” your time with the pastor will be a curated and personal conversation, designed to meet you as a couple right where you are and to help you reflect on where you hope to go together in life. If additional marriage counseling or therapeutic support is needed, the pastor will gladly refer you to a trusted professional in the field.
